Nothing spectacular happens in the video. It is just some video I came across when I was cleaning my desk and so I uploaded it to Youtube. It is either PR37 or PR337, but I can’t remember which. But what I do remember is that we were tired, hungry, dehydrated, and ready to get home. Which is a shame, because that is a road that should be enjoyed.. although it was a little spooky because rock slides and construction leave powder and rocks all in the turns, and the setting sun creates a glare in your helmet that looks just as bad as what you see in this video. But even so it was a great day and I miss those Texas roads and can’t wait until the day I can move back and start riding my motorcycle in the hill country again and start going to track days again.
Photos from our trip to Corpus in 2007. We used to go stay in the Radisson on the beach.

What do I have in common with this dude? The highside crash, of course.
I had a nasty highside crash on a hill named “highside hill” (not making that up) at the Motorsport Ranch race track in Houston. Then I left for Korea to do a 1 year tour because the military said I had to go. Then my family and I moved to Arizona and there are no decent tracks out here. But I finally got desperate and signed up for some “track time” at the parking lot called Firebird Raceway, or something like that.
This is me, with my bike looking half-decent after the repairs from the 2007 crash. So, two years later here I am riding around and I was really surprised at how awkward it felt! I initially had signed up for the expert group, but I ended up dropping down a group because I was placing too much pressure on myself to ride fast, and I wasn’t focusing on being smooth. On a right hand turn I grabbed too much throttle and spun up the back tire and the rear of the bike snapped around and rag doll tossed me onto the pavement. It felt just as painful as I remembered it!
I broke off the front brake reservoir and so my day was over. My wife drove out with the kids and we just relaxed for a while and then I packed it in and headed home.
I ended up icing my leg for a couple of days.. it was swollen and purple for over three weeks. That was over a year ago, and my neck still hasn’t made a full recovery!
