2007 Yamaha R1 Sato Rearset

When he re-installed, he over-torqued the left side and under-torqued the right side. So, the right side just needed to be tightened, but the left side was damaged and the bike couldn’t be ridden without the shift linkage and the foot peg working their way loose until they were just dangling off. I briefly considered just replacing the left side with a used part, but ended up just buying a racing rearset. This was a better choice for me because I could set the foot pegs, brake lever and shifter up to my ergonomic satisfaction. But, the real bonus was that I could switch to GP shifting.. that is, 1 up/5 down shifting. You see, I have a 2003 Honda CBR 954 that uses this style of shifting and sometimes I would get confused because my motorcycles shifted in reverse patterns… not a good thing when you are hauling ass on a track and trying to grab shifts as you decelerate.

I ended up going with Sato because the price was less painful and there was actually a rearset available for my R1. The instructions sucked, but there were pictures and I am pretty handy with a wrench and so I was able to figure it out.

The gold will most likely fade, but that is okay.

The positioning feels good and there are several setup choices which is nice. I took the bike out for a spin and got rained on in the process. Oh well.
